Get relief for chronic muscle or joint pain

Effective January 1, 2023, you’ll have access to a new therapeutic massage benefit with your Aetna MedicareSM Plan PPO offered through the Foreign Service Benefit Plan.

You can access this benefit at $0 copay, up to 50 visits a year.

Therapeutic massage is used to relieve or reduce chronic muscle or joint pain related to conditions of the musculoskeletal or myofascial systems. Therapeutic massage can treat symptoms related to injury or illness such as:

    • Pain
    • Stiffness
    • Loss of range of motion

We’ve partnered with American Specialty Health Group (ASH Group) to provide you with therapeutic massage services. As a PPO ESA member, you can visit providers in and out of the ASH network at the same cost share, as long as they accept Medicare and your Aetna® plan.

Important note: Therapeutic massage treatments must be medically necessary, as determined by ASH Group, and provided by a state licensed massage therapist. We do not cover therapeutic massage for comfort or relaxation purposes.

To take advantage of this new benefit, here are next steps:

    1. Find out if your provider offers this benefit — we’re here to help. Just call the Member Services number on your Aetna member ID card. Or search our online provider network directory.
    2. Have your physician or medical professional submit a Medical Necessity Review (MNR) form directly to ASH Group at ASHLink.com.
      • If you choose to use a provider outside of the ASH Group network, remember to show them your Aetna member ID card on your first visit.
    3. ASH Group will decide eligibility and contact your provider within 14 business days.
